Broccoli!

We ate the first broccoli out of our garden today! We were going to save it to go into our calzones tonight but we couldn't help ourselves and snarfed it down on the spot. A lovely gentleman from our garden also told us how to eat thistles (peel the leaves down and eat the tender stems) so Evie has been eating her way through our weeds. We had just been wondering about eating thistles and nettles when he came by our plot last week to chat--gotta love serendipity.

Evie heard back from the wildlife rehabilitator she wrote to this spring, she (Evie) will be fostering 5 baby bunnies for two weeks and then releasing them--you can imagine her excitement.

I declared today "creativity day" so Evie made an apron and I made an "artsy clutch." I cheated and used a book:Bend-the-Rules Sewing: The Essential Guide to a Whole New Way to Sew. I even made the button. I like the clutch, think I will re-do the button.

Midwest Log Rolling Championships this Saturday at Lake Wingra--come by if you're in town. Amateurs start at noon, pros at 2:30, boom running at 4:00. We'll be down at the lake behind Michael's on Monroe Street!

Time to bring in the laundry and start the oven--stream monitoring after dinner.

Never a dull moment!

Thistles taste crunchy and green--peel away the prickles until you just have a tender stalk, chomp away!
