Happy Birthday Doh!

Evie woke up yesterday morning and told me it was Doh's birthday. Doh is her imaginary friend who has been around since she was 3. She has a best friend who is "like her twin but not really her sister" named Lilli Tree. Doh and Lilli Tree were constant companions and commentators the year Evie was 3. They still come around every once in awhile but not in the same vivid way. Yesterday Evie enlisted the help of three friends to bake a cake (it was delicious), create a ballet and decorate for the big b-day. At the end of the day we gathered up 12 neighhbors, hid under play equipment and behind trees and waited for Evie to tell us Doh was coming across the street. We all jumped out and yelled "Surprise!" Then we sang "Happy Birthday" and blew out candles and ate the cake!

The girls were brilliant bakers, carefully measuring and following the recipe. Scott and I were elsewhere and didn't even come into the kitchen until we started to smell the yummy smell of baking chocolate cake. They left our kitchen cleaner than when it started--they are 5, 7, 7 and 9.

The neighbors all took the party in stride, as if it was perfectly normal to have a birthday party for an imaginary friend. I wish I had pictures of the birthday girl and her cake but, well . . . I think you can figure out my difficulty!
