Digging in the Atlas Mountains

It was a dry and dusty day in the mountains of Tunisia and Morocco yesterday. Dr. Amelia Fossil and I (Dr. Abigail Awl) were taking a walk to look at wildflowers when suddenly my esteemed colleague spotted some surface fossils. Intrigued she began to dig more. Lo and behold we discovered a cave with evidence of Mousterian habitation (roughly 45,000 years ago, give or take a few anomolies). We set up a grid immediately, dug a test pit and began a full scale excavation. The cave art was stunning and our site map revealed clear usage patterns within the cave (click on the photo to enlarge it and see for yourself). Here are some photos from the dig. A jolly good day indeed!
