Good-byes
Today is the end of an era and we are sad. Our sweet Lucy chicken died on Wednesday and it immediately became apparent that Flicka would be extremely lonely all by herself. With the pizza business taking off and many travel plans in our future we decided to find Flicka a new happy chicken home. She will be going to live with our vet, an amazing woman with a beautiful farm and lots of happy free-range chickens.
We will no longer be part of the urban chicken movement. We have had countless articles written about our family, been on TV and radio talking about urban homesteading, advocated for urban chickens ordinances in other cities--in short, having chickens has been a part of our family identity.
We are forging a new path as independent business owners. That is exciting. We are very sad that this chicken chapter is over. We will miss our silly girls so very much and we are so very grateful that Flicka will have a paradise even better than her life here. She is such a social little girl and having not just 1, but 15 new sisters will make her so very happy.
When one door closes, another opens but it isn't always comfortable.

Glad to hear you found a good home for your chicken. I think one of my "girls" is a rooster, and I am trying to find a new home for her/him. I hope I have as happy a story to share as you did!
