Big Announcement
Well we've been home for almost a week now and I have been hinting for quite awhile that we have big news. In general, I am a "wait until its done" person, "don't count your chickens," etc. However, our trip out West made me realize that life just keeps going! Making a life, in all its myriad stages with ups and downs is never, ever done.
So . . .we are going into business! We have started a business called La Fortuna and we will be doing mobile, wood-fired pizza. Our primary focus will be on catering (family parties, corporate team building etc.), festivals and make-you-own parties. We will also be offering workshops about building your own mud oven.
We have been talking about this for years and now we are just going to do it! We have our bank account and LLC paperwork, the oven is ordered and our first ad is submitted for publication (look for the new magazine Edible Madison in June). The website is under construction (I will post BIG when that is done), we are talking with farmers and looking for a truck (anyone have an F150 extended cab?)
This "making a life" is not for the faint of heart! This project involves not only the three of us, but our parents, Scott's siblings and all our friends. In the end, it is all about community. All good parties end up in the kitchen, we want to make a life out of bringing the kitchen to you, giving you an incredible food experience and allowing you to deepen your connections to your family, friends and place.
Last night we had 12 hungry friends over to help us with work flow analysis and to time our current pizza making rate. We made 29 pizzas in 18 minutes. Turns out I think we CAN do this! Come along for the ride because this new venture is just one more piece of us circling the world in BIG!

bummer our truck didn't work...hey are you thinking diesel...just curious...rick asked...and said how cool would it be if they converted a diesel into vegie oil and drove that around!
***my word verification is/was "caters"~how silly!!!
@Tiff: Diesel would be awesome but it is out of our price range. I think the word verification was a sign!
This is awesome news. Awesome! Would you guys be up and running in time for the dragon boat race? Going to be a smaller event in it's first year and I think would be a cool addition.
@Megan: Probably won't have the oven until early July--next year though for sure!
I hope you include "all good parties end up in the kitchen - we bring the kitchen to you" in your PR. All awsome!
Congratulations, Jen!!!
And Scott and Evie!
So, so happy for you. How exciting!
Coooooool!! So excited for you guys! Can't want to try some of the pizza. It looks delish!
awesome! that sounds very exciting...working for yourself is as good as it gets.
we would love to build an oven in our yard...consulting services? ;)
@Denise: Yup, consulting and workshops, coming up!
What a great idea! I hope you'll put photos of some of the places and things you end up being/doing because of this.
