-11

I woke up to -11 on the thermometer this morning, good thing I shut the chickens all the way in last night (they always seem oblivious to the cold so it was more for my comfort!). The end of the week is always a blur around here, Thursday saw Evie and a friend grooming horses and visiting a wild mustang in from Montana to be trained and sold--I am not sure how I feel about that one. Unfortunately the camera was on the wrong setting and Evie didn't notice so most of pictures were stomach-churningly blurry but a few came out well.

On a separate note, I love Sandra Dodd's phrase "strewing" to mean leaving interesting things out in your home and seeing what comes of them--for all members of the family. Months ago I put up a poster from an old National Geographic about explorers. We look at it every time we go upstairs. Last night Evie sat down in front of it, noted which explorers she has heard of and which she hadn't, read all the bios, told me some things I didn't know about ones she was more familiar with and then lamented that there wasn't a woman among them. Screwing up her face she said, "Well, Sally Ride is an explorer and she went farther than any of these boys!" Then she made up a character called Abigail Ridingsworth who lived in Australia and explored the entire world on horseback or dolphin--I smell a good story brewing.

Have a good weekend everyone!

wow...really -11F...coldy! We have been having warm weather here...not great mushing temps...15F to 25F above 0F. WE seem to always want what you guys have...snow...and now negative temps...giggle!

Love the horse pictures. I could just see Evie giving such great care to those beautiful animals.
